The Final Countdown
On Thursday 19th March, I had a meeting with my Thwaites Area Manager . . Nothing special there, we get a meeting roughly monthly or 6 weekly.
However, out of the blue, he tells me that the brewery doesn't see my boozer as a profitable asset anymore and that they are going to be advertising it for sale, but its ok because my contract runs to Jan 2016.
Fast forward to Tuesday 30th (11 days) , apparently, the brewery has been made offers by 2 undisclosed property developers . . errrm it's not advertised yet is it ?
That's a coincidence methinks!
So, if they exchange contracts in the next fortnight, I will get 28 days' notice to quit, this means, at worst, 'The Shuttle' will close its doors for ever, and in about 6 weeks and the bulldozers move in !
On this note, I'd like to say it's been a bit of a wild ride for 4 years, it's been a privilege to work with the staff we've had , the friends we've made , the bands and promoters we've met and mostly . . you horrible lot . . our valued customers.
We, The Shuttle Team kept going, we wish we were still planning and keeping going, but alas, someone else has pulled the rug from under us . . .
This brings me to the unsavoury bit, bands - Booked gigs will be honoured 'til the death However, our world famous Jam Nights are cancelled and I will not be taking on mid-week band rehearsals any more.
Our exit plan so far - The Maiden uniteD gig (30th April) will be going ahead as our penultimate event, followed by a leaving party somewhere around Saturday 9th May. T.B.C.
So from all of us who keep you pissed and dancing. Thanks, it's been a blast.
